My Favorite Natural Hair Products

  • February 7, 2022

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It’s been three years since my last roundup, and I’m often asked what my current favorite products are. So I’m sharing an updated list of my favorite natural hair products. Since that last post, I’ve tried, and fell in love with, tons of new natural hair products![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1644118410880{padding-top: 2px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #f7f2ee !important;}”]Emoji-key:

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mkdf_tabs type=”vertical”][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Pre-Shampoo”][vc_column_text]

Disclaimer: I didn’t include a “conditioner” section to this favorites list because I typically use them for pre-shampoos.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Brand: Inahsi Naturals ??

Product: Soothing Mint Moisturizing Conditioner

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This is my favorite conditioner to use for pre-shampooing because the slip is amazing thanks to the aloe. It also feels refreshing and stimulating on my scalp thanks to the mint, and smells amazing![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: African Pride

Product: Moisture Miracle Pre-Shampoo

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]You probably remember this one from my 2018 list, and it’s still in my rotation. With aloe vera and coconut water as the main ingredients, this pre-shampoo makes detangling SO much easier for me. My hair feels moisturized and soft, and it really sets the tone for my entire wash day.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1644118893949{padding-left: 5px !important;background-color: #f7f2ee !important;}”]

[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Shampoo”][vc_column_text]

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: Rhassoul & Bentonite Clay Shampoo Bar

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Probably the best multi-purpose product, this is my go-to shampoo when traveling because it’s great at cleansing my scalp. And since it’s a shampoo bar, it doesn’t count as a liquid when traveling. You can also use it as a facial cleanser.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Design Essentials ✊?

Product: Almond & Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling Sulfate-Free Shampoo

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This is the first shampoo to honestly leave me speechless. It has a thicker consistency than most shampoos I’ve tried and lathers easily, so a little goes a long way. Since I detangle during the pre-shampoo and deep conditioning steps, I’m unsure if this shampoo is easy to detangle with. I do, however, feel like my hair is very moisturized after every use of this shampoo.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Inahsi Naturals ??

Product: Soothing Mint Gentle Cleansing Shampoo

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I’m obsessed with the cooling and tingling sensation that the mint provides in this shampoo. I truly feel like I’m pampering my hair, and it’s amazing at cleaning my scalp without leaving it dry.

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: Brahmi Root Hair Masque

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This mask is LIFE, I mean, the ingredients speak for themselves. From marshmallow, yucca and burdock root, to avocado oil, raw honey, and hydrolyzed wheat protein. This was also my first introduction to ayurvedic herbs! My curls feel soft, moisturized and strong after every use. Detangling with this product in my hair is an absolute breeze, and the smell is amazing. The consistency is thick — and y’all know how much I love a deep conditioner with thick consistency. I also love that it just melts into my hair. I HIGHLY suggest you sit under a steamer or hooded dryer for extra moisture. Trust me, your curls will love you for this![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1644119348804{padding-left: 5px !important;background-color: #f7f2ee !important;}”]

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Design Essentials ✊?

Product: Almond & Avocado Wash Day Deep Moisture Masque

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This might be the thickest masque I’ve ever tried, and I love that! It’s also very creamy, so a little goes a long way. My hair always feels soft after rinsing this product out, and it smells amazing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: SheaMoisture

Product: Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Masque

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Another product from the 2018 list, I’ve been using this masque since I started my natural hair journey. And it’s definitely going to stay in rotation, as long as the formula doesn’t change. It’s moisturizing, makes detangling very easy and contains a small amount of protein. Also, I love the thick consistency, so I don’t need to apply a lot in my hair.[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Protein Treatment”][vc_column_text]

Brand: Hydratherma Naturals ??

Product: Amino Plus Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Prior to this product, I’ve only used one protein treatment consistently (see SheaMoisture Protein Power Treatment below). I’ve tried other treatments, but weren’t really thrilled with them. Either they left my curls feeling hard, stiff and dry, or didn’t really strengthen my hair. But the Amino Plus Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment moisturizes and strengthens my hair at once. In fact, I’ve used this treatment more than once a month and my curls felt balanced with protein and moisture.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: SheaMoisture

Product: Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Protein Power Treatment

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This is my staple protein treatment when all else fails — no need to fix what isn’t broken, right? Since my hair is high porosity, it pretty much loves any product with protein in it. This protein power treatment is no different. In fact, I use this treatment more than once a month because it’s also very moisturizing. It’s hard to come across protein treatments that not only strengthen your hair, but also leaves it soft and moisturized. But this product does just that, and I can detangle using this product with no issues. Although the jar is small, this product is thick in consistency, so a little goes a long way.[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Leave-in Conditioner”][vc_column_text]

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: More Moisture Cream

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I’m not sure what my life was before this leave-in, seriously, this product is everything. I LOVE how thick and creamy it’s, and the smell is amazing! Also, the amount of definition and shine I get with this leave-in alone is unbelievable. My curls love all the ingredients in this product, from aloe vera juice, to avocado oil and so much more![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: TréLuxe ✊???

Product: Untie the Knot Leave-in Conditioner

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Another product I’ve been using since 2018, this is my favorite leave-in during the warmer months. Since the consistency isn’t thick, it feels so lightweight on my hair. But, interestingly enough, it also isn’t thin either. It’s like a lotion-y type of consistency, if that makes sense? So you don’t need to use a lot, but it won’t weigh down your hair either. This leave-in also makes detangling easy. I love the smell, it’s like a cinnamon spice type of fragrance and makes me think of the holiday season.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1644119561993{padding-left: 5px !important;background-color: #f7f2ee !important;}”]

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Brand: Inahsi Naturals ??

Product: Aloe Hibiscus Leave-in Conditioner & Detangler

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I use this leave-in as a detangler for pre-shampooing and a leave-in when styling. But it says you can use it “daily or several times a week” to moisturize and refresh your hair. The slip from this leave-in is incredible and helps strengthen your hair with the avocado and coconut oils.

(use code curlyhairadventures for 15% off your Inahsi Naturals order)[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Cream/Gel/Mousse”][vc_column_text]

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: Essentials Silky Aloe Curl Pudding

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Hands down, Bask & Bloom’s Curl Pudding and the More Moisture Cream are my FAVORITE. I can’t even describe how my hair feels when using both products to style, but I’ll try to elaborate. Following up with this Curl Pudding after the cream makes my hair feel insanely moisturized. This Curl Pudding has like a whipped type of texture and applies like butter. It feels so light and fluffy, but heavy at the same time, so use sparingly. Most times, I question if I need to even follow up with an oil since this product seals in moisture. Also, between this Curl Pudding and the More Moisture Cream, my braid and twist-outs come out SO defined.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: Curl Mousse

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]So, if you couldn’t tell from this list so far, Bask & Bloom’s products are AMAZING. The Bask & Bloom Curl Mousse has made me a believer in hair mousse. I’ve always been under the impression that mousses were meant to make your hair stiff. So, I’ve steered cleared from them in the past. However, this mousse is surprisingly moisturizing, gives a great hold and leaves my hair shiny. And it didn’t leave my hair feeling hard or crunchy once it dried. I use this mousse during the warmer months to keep my hair defined. And like all other Bask & Bloom products, this mousse smells amazing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: TréLuxe ✊???

Product: Curl Supreme 4-in-1 Hydrating Creme

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]I honestly use this creme with just a sealant oil during the colder months because it’s thick in consistency. I love how my curls immediately start to clump when applying this product, and my curls always look so defined. It also has a nice, light, floral scent.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: African Pride

Product: Moisture Miracle Gel n’ Cream

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Another styler I love to use as a standalone product. The Gel n’ Cream, gives my hair great definition from the gel, but also amazing moisture from the cream. It literally clumps my curls as soon as it’s applied. Since it’s thicker in consistency, I like to use it during the colder months and seal with oil.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Inahsi Naturals ??

Product: Rock Your Curls Curl Enhancing Cream

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]And yet another styler I love to use as a standalone product. This cream is thick, and provides moisture and definition. Since its consistency is thick, I like to use it during the colder months and seal with oil.

(use code curlyhairadventures for 15% off your Inahsi Naturals order)[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][mkdf_tabs_item tab_title=”Oil”][vc_column_text]

Brand: SharNaturals ??

Product: Fresh Herbs and Ayuverdic Oil

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This is my primary oil – I’ve been using it for about four years now. I incorporate it into different steps in my wash day including: pre-shampooing, hot oil treatment and as a sealant. The Fresh Herbs and Ayuverdic oil can be used for scalp massages and promotes hair growth. The ingredients are also amazing, from fresh herbs like: lavender, basil, rosemary, sage and thyme. To ayuverdic powders like: aloe vera leaf, amla, brahmi, turmeric, neem and ginger root.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Brand: Bask & Bloom ??

Product: Stimulating Herbal Oil

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Another great multi-purpose oil. Like the SharNaturals oil, I use this one for hot oil treatments and as a sealant. I use this one when I want a lighter oil as the SharNaturals oil can be a little heavier.[/vc_column_text][/mkdf_tabs_item][/mkdf_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

(Finally) Sharing some photos/videos from my 30th (Finally) Sharing some photos/videos from my 30th birthday trip to #Kenya — leave it to me to post this 9 months later 😅

Read my blog post for a full recap (🔗 in bio) on where I ate, played, and stayed in #Kenya🇰🇪 (#Nairobi and #Lamu) including @ololo_lodge, which was hands down one of my favorite stays because:

1. It's located in #NairobiNationalPark: Making it a great option if you're short on time but want to experience a safari 🦁🐒🦓🦒
2. Their staff is very attentive and friendly, especially their manager, James!
3. Your stay includes complimentary breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
4. Their amenities include a spa room 💆🏾‍♀️ and even a pool to enjoy in between the morning and evening #gamedrives
👀 Watch me go from a #silkpress 🔙 to my curl 👀 Watch me go from a #silkpress 🔙 to my curls 👩🏾‍🦱

Does anyone else love the first #washday after getting a trim? Your ends are healthy, detangling is a breeze, and your curls just act right 🤣

I've posted a couple of these "revert silk press back to curly hair" videos on the ⏰️ app, and enjoy making them because it's fascinating seeing how much my hair shrinks with just water, it's like magic ✨️😍

I love getting silk presses because I get a brief break from my curls and get my necessary trims. However, nothing beats my #naturalhair! I wish I appreciated my curls more when I was younger and not striving for straight hair or a looser curl pattern, but I'm happy I do now 🙏🏾

🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniv 🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniversary! On September 4, 2015, my stylist cut my relaxed ends, starting my #naturalhairjourney.

To celebrate the occasion, here's my usual #lengthcheck from my recent #silkpress and trim.

Embracing my natural hair was one of the best decisions I made in my early 20s. This is the healthiest (and longest) I've ever seen my hair 😍 but it took a lot of patience and mistakes to get my hair where it's today.

I've never really shared some of these mistakes, but there were many — including:

• Experiencing heat damage (my stylist and I were able to fix this and have since stopped using high heat towards the front of my hair)
• Accidently cutting ✂️ a piece of my hair when unraveling #passiontwists 😅 (thankfully, it was towards the back of my head and has since grown out)
• Having protein overload (I underestimated how strong @aphogee's protein treatment is 😬)

What mistakes have you made in your hair journey?
#ad What's your least favorite part of pre-travel #ad What's your least favorite part of pre-travel 🤔?

Thanks to @taskrabbit, I was able to hire a Tasker to pick up last-minute items I needed for my recent trip.

This allowed me to focus my time and energy on more important things, like packing and doing my hair 👩🏾‍🦱.

@kayak and @taskrabbit have teamed up for a sweepstakes where one winner will get a $500 gift card towards travel from KAYAK + $500 in Taskrabbit credit.

Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 whil Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 while on vacation?

For 90% of my trips, I put my natural hair in #minitwists or #minibraids. Both are great low-maintenance styles, keep my hair moisturized in any climate, and are versatile to style.

My favorite hairstyles for mini twists and braids are: two buns, a low ponytail or bun, or wearing a scarf with my twists/braids out.

For the other 10%, my hair is either: blown out and styled, in a protective style (mainly #passiontwists or #senegalesetwists), or silk pressed. It really depends on factors like: the climate at the destination I'm going to, activities I'm getting into, and duration of trip.
