Product Review: SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Collection

  • May 30, 2018

Throughout the years, I’ve tried many hair, skin and body products from the SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil collection. I wanted to share a review on these products.

Hair.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Shampoo

Honestly, I don’t think this is the best cleansing shampoo, however it does leave my hair soft and hydrated. I use this shampoo when I’m doing protein treatments on wash day since it doesn’t dry out my hair.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Conditioner

This conditioner has amazing slip, which is great for detangling, I actually use it for my pre-shampoo treatment. I love how hydrated and soft my hair feels after using this conditioner.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Rehydration Treatment Masque

This rehydation treatment masque is LIFE. Just like the shampoo, conditioner and leave in from this collection, my hair felt so moisturized and soft. I was able to detangle with no problem using this masque, my hands just glided through my hair. This is definitely one I’ll keep in rotation in my routine. You’re supposed to let it sit for 5-minutes, but it’s so moisturizing that I’ve kept it in for hours. Even after sitting under a hooded dryer.

It’s fairly thick, I was able to tilt the jar a bit without product falling out. I prefer my deep conditioning treatments to be thicker in consistency so I don’t feel like I’m using the whole jar in one wash day. And although the masque is thick, I didn’t have issues with it melting into my hair.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Leave-in Treatment

This is one of my favorite summer leave-in treatments because it’s lightweight. My hair feels soft and it’s easy to detangle. It also reduces the amount of frizz I get, which is a lot since my hair is high porosity.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Rehydration Hot Oil Treatment

The rehydration hot oil treatment is supposed to hydrate, condition and help hair strands retain strength and elasticity to resist breakage. It leaves hair soft and manageable. SheaMoisture provided me with two of these 1 fl oz bottles.

I don’t do hot oil treatments often. Although I probably should be. This is probably the first time I’ve done a hot oil treatment since going fully natural over two years ago. This treatment definitely helped my wash day go smoother. I didn’t find myself struggling to detangle my hair throughout wash day after letting the oil sit in my hair. SheaMoisture recommends leaving it in for 3-5 minutes, but I’ve left it in overnight and loved how my hair felt after.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Styling Gel

Honestly, I don’t use gels in my hair regime because some leave your hair flaky and very stiff. This gel, however, is very lightweight but also provides a good hold. I like using it during the summer because creams are typically too heavy for my hair during those months.

Skincare.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Glow Priming Moisturizer

This moisturizer says it’ll deliver an instant glow with lightweight hydration as it prepares skin for smooth makeup application. It provides long-lasting moisture, leaving skin with a fresh, dewy glow.

I’m honestly not savvy with makeup, so I can’t attest to how this moisturizer works when applying makeup. However, I can say that this priming moisturizer is great to use without applying makeup. The shimmering glow ? you get from this primer is insane. I got a little too heavy handed the first time I applied and had a caked face. The second time, I made sure to put a modest amount on my face. I’m honestly in love with this moisturizer and am really considering keeping it in my skincare routine, especially during colder months when my skin is dry.

It’s like a cream, which I love because I don’t need to use a lot to keep my face moisturized.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Face Lotion

I’m unsure why, but this lotion makes my face feel oily during the warmer months. So I really only use it during the colder months when my face is dry since it provides amazing hydration. This lotion doesn’t irritate my skin, and like the rest of the collection, it smells great.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Face Lotion

Love, love, LOVE these facial wipes, especially when traveling! It does an amazing job cleansing my skin, literally I can see the impurities on the cloth after wiping. Great for taking off makeup, these facial wipes definitely leave your skin feeling clean and hydrated.

Body.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Bar Soap

This is the go-to bar soap in my household, it leaves my skin clean and soft. I also love how big the bar soap is, it can last for a few weeks. Like the rest of the collection, the soap has a coconut scent that I love.

Overview of the 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Collection

  • My favorites from this collection are the treatment masque, bar soap, and styling gel.
  • The smell of this entire line smells like coconut, which I love and get many compliments on. For me, the scent is just enough to make me feel like I’m somewhere tropical.

I’ve been looking for a moisturizer for my face so Im thinking Im going to try the one you reviewed. I love the 100% coconut oil bar soap from this line, the lather is like no other its so silky and leaves your skin feeling super clean and smelling great. I used to use the olay facial moisturizer but i have been wanting to switch over to products with less crap in them. Thanks for the honest review!

Thank you for reading!! Yes, this moisturizer is great but I think it’s a better moisturizer to use during the colder months. It’s a little thicker so it would just melt off in the heat lol.

Read my blog post for a full recap (🔗 in bio) on where I ate, played, and stayed in #Kenya🇰🇪 (#Nairobi and #Lamu) including @ololo_lodge, which was hands down one of my favorite stays because:

1. It's located in #NairobiNationalPark: Making it a great option if you're short on time but want to experience a safari 🦁🐒🦓🦒
2. Their staff is very attentive and friendly, especially their manager, James!
3. Your stay includes complimentary breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
4. Their amenities include a spa room 💆🏾‍♀️ and even a pool to enjoy in between the morning and evening #gamedrives

Does anyone else love the first #washday after getting a trim? Your ends are healthy, detangling is a breeze, and your curls just act right 🤣

I've posted a couple of these "revert silk press back to curly hair" videos on the ⏰️ app, and enjoy making them because it's fascinating seeing how much my hair shrinks with just water, it's like magic ✨️😍

I love getting silk presses because I get a brief break from my curls and get my necessary trims. However, nothing beats my #naturalhair! I wish I appreciated my curls more when I was younger and not striving for straight hair or a looser curl pattern, but I'm happy I do now 🙏🏾

🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniv 🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniversary! On September 4, 2015, my stylist cut my relaxed ends, starting my #naturalhairjourney.

To celebrate the occasion, here's my usual #lengthcheck from my recent #silkpress and trim.

Embracing my natural hair was one of the best decisions I made in my early 20s. This is the healthiest (and longest) I've ever seen my hair 😍 but it took a lot of patience and mistakes to get my hair where it's today.

I've never really shared some of these mistakes, but there were many — including:

• Experiencing heat damage (my stylist and I were able to fix this and have since stopped using high heat towards the front of my hair)
• Accidently cutting ✂️ a piece of my hair when unraveling #passiontwists 😅 (thankfully, it was towards the back of my head and has since grown out)
• Having protein overload (I underestimated how strong @aphogee's protein treatment is 😬)

Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 whil Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 while on vacation?

For 90% of my trips, I put my natural hair in #minitwists or #minibraids. Both are great low-maintenance styles, keep my hair moisturized in any climate, and are versatile to style.

My favorite hairstyles for mini twists and braids are: two buns, a low ponytail or bun, or wearing a scarf with my twists/braids out.

For the other 10%, my hair is either: blown out and styled, in a protective style (mainly #passiontwists or #senegalesetwists), or silk pressed. It really depends on factors like: the climate at the destination I'm going to, activities I'm getting into, and duration of trip.
