Spa Experience at Bota Bota

  • October 25, 2018

Bota Bota is a floating spa located in the Old Port of Montreal. The location is unique as it’s located on a boat and has beautiful views of Old Montreal.

We started off our trip to Montreal by coming here and it really set the tone. You can get a: massage, facial treatment, mani/pedi or even relax in the sauna. We decided to take advantage of their outdoor whirlpool baths, called water circuits.

Cost for the water circuit + what it includes:

Cost for the water circuit: $60 CAD | ~$53.50 USD

The process is simple, after purchasing your ticket at the front desk you receive a:

  • Fob wristband with your locker number
  • Robe
  • Towel

Since we purchased a ticket for the water circuit, we had three hours to relax and enjoy. Going over three hours means having to pay extra, which is added to your overall total at the end.

What is the water circuit process:

First, head to the bathroom to change, then follow these steps for the water circuit:

  • 10-15 minute session in the dry sauna or steam bath
  • Dip into a cold bath/shower
  • Relax in one of the many relaxation areas

The dry sauna or steam bath raises your body temperature and flushes out toxins. A dip in a cold bath/shower gets the heart pumping and closes pores. Relaxing after both steps helps the heart rate return to normal. I might’ve stayed in the steam bath a little longer than 10-15 minutes, but you get the point.

Additional amenities at Bota Bota

  • Relaxation areas: There are many relaxation areas, from: swings, bean bag chairs, padded window seats and more.
  • La Traversée Restaurant: There’s a restaurant inside that opens at 11am. Whatever orders from the restaurant can be added to your total afterwards.
  • Locker room: The women’s locker room includes: hair dryers, brushes, flat iron, shampoo, shower gel and more.

Suggestions/advice

  • Go early as it gets fairly crowded as the day goes on. Also, I’d suggest going on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowd.
  • Bring your own flip flops. They don’t provide any and you’ll have to walk barefoot if you don’t have any. Or, you could buy pricey flip flops in their gift shop ??.
  • Bota Bota recommends not storing anything in the pockets of your robe, as everyone has the same robe color/style. I still brought my phone with me and since I was with my friend, we just hung our robes/towels on one rack.
  • Bring a water bottle if you want. You’ll be able to refill it with one of the many water fountains around.

Have you done a spa day in another country? What spa was it and how was the experience?

Wow, this experience looked so relaxing! I love all of the photos you took, very cute! I’m now interested in checking out more spas when I’m on vacation. I got a massage when I was in Mexico. It was so cheap and well worth it! You make traveling with curly hair look so effortless and easy! I always wear braids when I’m on vacation, but now I know where to come for tips and tricks to maintain my natural hair while on the go. Love it!

It was such an amazing and relaxing experience! I agree, now I’m looking into doing more spa days when I’m traveling. I’ve only done one in Thailand and Canada, I wish I did one in Mexico like you did. Thank you so much for all the love and support, I really appreciate it sis! Let me know if you have any questions about traveling with natural hair, I’d love to help if/where I can ❤️

(Finally) Sharing some photos/videos from my 30th (Finally) Sharing some photos/videos from my 30th birthday trip to #Kenya — leave it to me to post this 9 months later 😅

Read my blog post for a full recap (🔗 in bio) on where I ate, played, and stayed in #Kenya🇰🇪 (#Nairobi and #Lamu) including @ololo_lodge, which was hands down one of my favorite stays because:

1. It's located in #NairobiNationalPark: Making it a great option if you're short on time but want to experience a safari 🦁🐒🦓🦒
2. Their staff is very attentive and friendly, especially their manager, James!
3. Your stay includes complimentary breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
4. Their amenities include a spa room 💆🏾‍♀️ and even a pool to enjoy in between the morning and evening #gamedrives

Does anyone else love the first #washday after getting a trim? Your ends are healthy, detangling is a breeze, and your curls just act right 🤣

I've posted a couple of these "revert silk press back to curly hair" videos on the ⏰️ app, and enjoy making them because it's fascinating seeing how much my hair shrinks with just water, it's like magic ✨️😍

I love getting silk presses because I get a brief break from my curls and get my necessary trims. However, nothing beats my #naturalhair! I wish I appreciated my curls more when I was younger and not striving for straight hair or a looser curl pattern, but I'm happy I do now 🙏🏾

🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniv 🎉 This month marks my 8 year #naturalhair anniversary! On September 4, 2015, my stylist cut my relaxed ends, starting my #naturalhairjourney.

To celebrate the occasion, here's my usual #lengthcheck from my recent #silkpress and trim.

Embracing my natural hair was one of the best decisions I made in my early 20s. This is the healthiest (and longest) I've ever seen my hair 😍 but it took a lot of patience and mistakes to get my hair where it's today.

I've never really shared some of these mistakes, but there were many — including:

• Experiencing heat damage (my stylist and I were able to fix this and have since stopped using high heat towards the front of my hair)
• Accidently cutting ✂️ a piece of my hair when unraveling #passiontwists 😅 (thankfully, it was towards the back of my head and has since grown out)
• Having protein overload (I underestimated how strong @aphogee's protein treatment is 😬)

Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 whil Do you wear your #naturalhair 👩🏾‍🦱 while on vacation?

For 90% of my trips, I put my natural hair in #minitwists or #minibraids. Both are great low-maintenance styles, keep my hair moisturized in any climate, and are versatile to style.

My favorite hairstyles for mini twists and braids are: two buns, a low ponytail or bun, or wearing a scarf with my twists/braids out.

For the other 10%, my hair is either: blown out and styled, in a protective style (mainly #passiontwists or #senegalesetwists), or silk pressed. It really depends on factors like: the climate at the destination I'm going to, activities I'm getting into, and duration of trip.
