Spain

Why visit Spain?

The food

My diet when living in Spain consisted of: paella, pan, queso, jamon, and tapas. I loved having an assortment of small plates to eat and share with friends, and the food is very cheap. Also, depending on where you travel, your drink order may come with free tapas!

Art + architecture

Spain has a lot of interesting and beautiful architecture and art. Almost every corner has intriguing buildings and/or museums and galleries to check out. There are also so many famous artists and architects that hail from Spain — think Pablo Picasso and Antoní. From the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, to the Prado Museum in Madrid. This country has beautiful architecture and art in every city and town.

Also, let’s not forget flamenco — which originated in the Andalusia region. This beautiful and powerful art-form is not to be missed.

Delightful weather year-round

Being situated in southern Europe, Spain boasts beautiful weather almost year-round. Obviously the further south you go means the warmer it’ll be, but the entire country is relatively pleasant year-round.

I went to Barcelona in late November and still felt temperatures in the upper 60’s. I also lived in Madrid between May-June, and it was very warm.

Beach & the city

You can honestly get the best of both worlds in this country. If you’re looking for a beach vacation, head to the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Ibiza or Valencia. If you’re looking for city-vibes, head to Seville or Madrid. And, some destinations provide both city and beach-vibes, like Valencia and Barcelona.

Things you MUST see/do in Spain

Safety in Spain

Spain is relatively safe, but pickpocketing has been a known issue, specifically in Barcelona and Madrid. Although I didn’t experience pickpocketing when living here, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. I’d advise you to please be mindful of your belongings and surroundings, especially in touristy spots and public transportation.
