Product Review: RedPro Hair Therapy Steamer

  • June 24, 2019

I’ve been looking to step up my deep conditioning game with a hair steamer. My family gifted me the RedPro hair steamer last year for the holidays. Ever since then, I’ve incorporated it into my weekly wash day routine. This review is based on usage for six months.

Benefits

According to RedPro, the hair steamer:

  • Moisturizes hair 6x more effectively
  • Prevents breakage and split ends:
    • Healthier cuticles
    • Stronger cortex
    • Soft, shiny hair
    • Easy detangling
  • Cleans your scalp:
    • Removes product build-up safely
    • Hydrates scalp to prevent dandruff
  • Spa facial at home:
    • Revitalizes skin elasticity
    • Replenishes luminosity
    • Restores moisture
    • Rejuvenates pores
    • Reduces wrinkles and fine lines

How to Incorporate the RedPro Hair Steamer into your:

Natural Hair Routine

I incorporate it on wash day when:

  • Pre-shampooing: I apply a conditioner and oil mix to my hair, sit under the hooded attachment, and then detangle. I notice my hair is easier to detangle after using the hair steamer. I’ve also noticed that this step helps ensure my hair is moisturized throughout the wash day.
  • Deep conditioning: After shampooing, I apply my favorite deep conditioner, sit under the hooded attachment, and then detangle.

Facial routine

My weekly, or bi-weekly facial routine with the Red Pro steamer looks like this:

  • Cleanse
  • Exfoliate
  • Use RedPro steamer on my face for 5-7 minutes
  • Mask
  • Hydrate

Read about what pre-shampoo and deep conditioning products I’m currently using.

Overall Review of the RedPro Hair Steamer

Pros:

  • Moisturizes hair: The amount of moisture I get from using this steamer is amazing. I have high porosity hair, so my curls get dry fairly quickly. I’ve noticed that I’ve had better moisture retention since incorporating this steamer.
  • Helps with detangling: My high porosity hair gets tangled quickly. I feel like this steamer has been amazing in helping me detangle my hair easily. It’s probably because my hair is incredibly moisturized when using this steamer.
  • Helps with elasticity: Since using this steamer, the elasticity of my hair has been amazing. My curls bounce back and shrink with no issues.
  • Provides shine: I’ve noticed that my hair has been a lot shinier since steaming my hair. For my high porosity folks, you know that’s almost hard to come by.
  • Easy to assemble: Setting up the facial and hair steamer is very easy. I had no issues assembling when I first got my steamer.
  • Easy to clean: I only clean the hooded attachment and cup to my hair steamer. However, cleaning both is fairly simple. I clean the cup when washing dishes, and I hand wash the hooded attachment with shampoo.
  • Rejuvenates skin: I love the benefits the facial steamer provides. My skin can get really dry and dull. Since using this steamer, my skin has looked hydrated and luminous. It’s the perfect addition to your skincare routine. I’ve gotten so many compliments about my skin looking smooth and bright.

Cons:

  • One size hooded dryer: The hooded dryer attachment can’t be resized. So if you have a lot of hair or a big head 😳, you’ll have to be strategic when sitting under the dryer. If you do run into issues, I’d suggest using the facial attachment instead.
  • Hair steamer height: You can’t adjust the height of the steamer. So, you’ll have to be sure you place it somewhere that’s not too high, and not too low when using the hair steamer. If you do run into issues, I’d suggest using the facial attachment instead.
  • Hooded attachment material: The hooded attachment is made out of fragile material, so I’d handle it with extreme care. I made the mistake of laying my hooded attachment under a wall decor that fell and cracked my attachment. You can’t get a replacement for the hooded attachment as RedPro doesn’t sell parts individually. So, if your attachment breaks/cracks, you’d have to get a whole new steamer. Thankfully, RedPro supplied me with another steamer so I could finish my review for y’all!

      Hi Geraldine,

Thank you for this comment! I’d be happy to help, but I’ll need you to be more specific as this question is very vague. Is your hair falling out in clumps when detangling? Is your hair dry even during wash day?

      Thanks,
      Paula

My Red-Pro Hair Therapy Steamer stopped working after two uses. What could be the potential problem?

Confession: My hair lives in mini twists about 95% Confession: My hair lives in mini twists about 95% of the time and I'm 100% okay with that 🤷🏾‍♀️

It's one of the things that has helped with my length retention over the years. And while it might not be the most "exciting" style, it's consistent (a must for my busy schedule), incredibly versatile, and keeps my high porosity, high density, fine hair moisturized and ends tucked away.

This is just one of the many tips I share in my 30+ page natural hair handbook.

If you want to:
👩🏾‍🦱 Simplify your routine
👩🏾‍🦱 Understand your hair's unique characteristics
👩🏾‍🦱 Find products that actually work for you
👩🏾‍🦱 Discover styles that aid in length retention
👩🏾‍🦱 Learn how to travel with your curls

Then this is the handbook for you. It's essentially everything I wish I knew when I first started my natural hair journey.

I’ve reached the stage of life where I refuse to c I’ve reached the stage of life where I refuse to come home needing a "vacation from my vacation."

When I planned this Tuscany 🇮🇹 trip, I knew the only way I’d actually reset was to intentionally leave space for me to just... be. Coming off a heavy month of April (marking the 10-year anniversary of my dad’s passing) this time away was more than just a trip, it was a necessary pause for my mental health.

I loved the busyness of Florence, but also needed the stillness of the countryside. So, we retreated to the Tuscan hills (via: @locandadeilogi) to drink a copious amount of wine 🍷 (via: @colombaio_santachiara), eat well (via: @cantinettadeilogi), sunbathe and nap poolside. 😴

I used my customizable itinerary template to include that balance into the schedule ahead of time, so I didn’t have to do anything once we arrived, besides relax.

Grab the exact template I use through the link in my bio 🔗 (also, my Tuscany blog post is coming soon).

Ecuador 🇪🇨 is really slept on (IMO), it's such a b Ecuador 🇪🇨 is really slept on (IMO), it's such a beautiful country with so much to offer!

Here are some things I'd recommend doing 👇🏾

🐎 Horseback riding in Cotopaxi National Park where you get views of three volcanoes, including Cotopaxi (which is one of the world's highest active volcanoes 🌋).

🐖 Try their traditional dish, cuy (guinea pig). I avoided it in Peru because both countries typically serve it whole with the head on 🥴. However, I tried it at @somos.rest in a dumpling 🥟 and it was actually delicious.

🌎 Straddle the equatorial line by visiting the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo.

⛰️ Get a day pass at @lunavolcan where you can relax in several pools/jacuzzis with views overlooking Baños, and more.

🍫 Cacao is native to the Amazon, so if you're a chocolate lover, eat up at places like @republicadelcacao's chocolate lab.

💦 Visit the @cascadaelpailon waterfall.

My Ecuador post sharing where to eat, play, and stay in Quito, Baños, and Cotopaxi is now live (link 🔗 in bio).

This month marks my 10th natural hair anniversary! This month marks my 10th natural hair anniversary! 🎉 On September 4, 2015, I officially started my #naturalhairjourney (after 3 years of transitioning from relaxed hair).

➡️ Swipe for things I've learned about natural hair care through this decade-long journey. Also sharing some additional tips below:

1️⃣ Protective styles ≠ healthy hair. Imma hold your hand when I say this: Protective styles aren't a shortcut to healthy hair. They're a break from styling, not an excuse for neglect. If you aren't taking care of your hair underneath, what are you actually protecting? 🤔

2️⃣ Textured hair is not created equal. What works for someone else might not work for you. Get to know your hair. You can get a consultation from a stylist, or take the @myavanahaircare analysis test.

3️⃣ Healthy habits = healthy hair. If you’re not taking care of yourself inside and out, your hair will tell on you 🗣. Drink your water 💦, move your body💪🏾, manage your stress, take your @blackgirlvitamins (I got a discount code via link in bio). Healthy hair starts with a healthy you.

🥂 Cheers to 10 years of learning to love the hair that naturally grows out of my scalp.
